Virginia Beach VA - history, recreation, preservation

Virginia Beach real estate owners have the unique advantage of living in a community that offers beaches, wildlife preserves, parks, urban conveniences, halcyon rural areas, cultural events and military facilities, all within close proximity to Virginia Beach VA homes.

History

A Native American tribe known as the Chesepians were the first inhabitants of the area, occupying Virginia Beach and its environs. In 1607, the infamous pioneer, John Smith, landed in Cape Henry, so named to honor the Prince of Wales. Following a victorious battle at Cape Henry in 1781, a lighthouse was built, the first federally funded lighthouse under the constitutional government.

Credit is due to the Virginia Beach Department of Museums for its focus on conserving the natural environment and preserving historic Virginia Beach VA real estate properties. Virginia Beach properties are as popular as ever and the city is recorded in the Guinness Book of Records for having the longest pleasure beach in the world.

Parks and recreation

Owners of homes for sale in Virginia Beach need only mention the oceanfront to draw the attention of prospective Virginia Beach home buyers. Along the 28-mile stretch of sandy beaches, people sunbathe, bike, shop, dine and play.

Another great outdoor experience is The Adventure Park, part of the Virginia Aquarium. An attraction for nature lovers of all ages, the park is a fun adventure of zip lines and wooden bridges for audacious climbers who revel in aerial pursuits. It's a popular venue for birthday parties too.

Attractions and activities

The Oceanfront Boardwalk is well-known to prospective Virginia Beach home buyers. This 1888 structure of wooden planks is now a hallmark touted by Virginia Beach Realtors. The boardwalk showcased the big bands of the late 1930s through the 1950s and continues to be a main attraction today. This perennial walkway is lined with gift shops, restaurants, ice cream parlors and more.

Events

Special programs and events are held at historic Virginia Beach homes such as the Lynnhaven House, circa 1725, and Francis Land House, circa 1805, allowing tourists and residents to envision life in the Colonial period.

A popular winter event is the Polar Plunge Winter Fest, which offers the Cool School Challenge, Plunge 5K, Pee Wee Plunge and Polar Plunge.

Being situated in a resort city, real estate in Virginia Beach is very competitive. Pamela Frohman understands this area and stays in tune to the Virginia Beach homes for sale and knows as soon as they hit the market.
